DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Action Sports Advertising is looking for an individual to (i) administer the accounting and bookkeeping of the company, (ii) manage the general administration of the office, (iii) assist the President in his day-to-day personal and professional obligations.

Action Sports Advertising is a Western Canada based advertising firm specializing in advertising contracts and sales for community and municipal athletic facilities (primarily ice arenas) throughout Western Canada. Our partner facilities include ice arenas in and around the Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina and Saskatoon areas. Action Sports Advertising has a client base that includes companies such as McDonald’s Restaurants, Royal Bank, BC Hydro and Re/Max Real Estate to name a few.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The successful candidate will be responsible for administering all bookkeeping, accounting duties and general administration of the company. The candidate will also be responsible for some sales/marketing support and administration, as well as tasks assigned by the President, in the role of his executive and personal assistant.

Working from Action Sports Advertising’s Calgary office, the successful candidate’s accounting responsibilities will include preparation of sales invoices for clients, input of vendor invoices, bank deposits, bill payments, government remittances, reconciliation of bank and credit card statements, preparation of remittances for partner facilities, and overseeing all accounts payable and receivable. The successful candidate’s sales and administrative responsibilities will include preparation/maintenance of sales literature and tools, maintenance of client databases, answering telephones, general filing and administrative duties, and miscellaneous errands, tasks and administrative duties as they arise in working with the President and other team members.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

ABOUT THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

Personal: Detail oriented, accurate, thorough and very well organized. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Self motivated and a self starter – takes initiative in undertaking projects. Able to work independently and with little supervision. Interested in working outside the rigidity and bureaucracy of large corporations, and the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a dynamic young business. While a significant portion of this position is Accounting oriented, the General Administrative & Executive Assistant roles are also substantial. Accordingly the successful candidate should be capable of and equally interested in all three aspects of this position.

Educational/Work Experience: Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows (XP or Windows 2000) required. Bookkeeping/accounting experience and/or experience with Simply Accounting or other small business accounting program required. Experience with Adobe Acrobat and Goldmine (or other contact manager, such as ACT or Maximizer) a definite asset but not required. Successful completion of a diploma or degree program in Business Administration or Accounting would be an asset, but not required. However, some formal training or education in Accounting (eg.: Accounting Diploma or Certificate) is required.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

For an immediate start, the successful candidate will be responsible for selling athletic facility advertising to potential clients in the Vancouver Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley markets. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating their own leads within their territory as well as attending meetings and closing deals set up by the business development team.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include:

  • Aggressively prospecting clients to drive growth.
  • Identifying possible prospects for the business development team.
  • Generating and qualifying sales leads.
  • Preparing sales literature and tools.
  • Making appointments.
  • Preparing and presenting proposals.
  • Negotiating contracts.
  • Managing existing client portfolio to maximize sales potential.
  • Utilizing and maintaining accurate client/contact databases.
  • Staying current on industry news, account developments, competitive environment and product knowledge.
  • Compiling and analyzing market research (where appropriate).
  • Participating in and coordinating the implementation of various sales strategies and initiatives.
  • Completing and submitting weekly sales-call and appointment reports to management, and reporting all relevant issues.

Your salary will consist of base salary plus commission and bonuses, with some expenses covered. Estimated potential earnings of $30,000 to $60,000 dependent upon performance.

Educational/Work Experience: Sales, retail sales or customer service experience preferred but will train the right candidate. Any cold calling experience would be an asset. Some knowledge of Microsoft Windows, MS Word and MS Excel required. Experience with GoldMine (or other contact manager) would be an asset. Successful completion of Secondary School is a requirement. Some College would be preferred, but not required.

Other: Candidates must have a reliable form of transportation, and must own a personal computer. A small home office with fax machine are assets, but not required.
